Its picturesque mountain scenery and healthy mountain air make Courmayeur an attractive destination. It is one of the most famous skiing locations in Europe. Still, Courmayeur is popular not only in the winter for skiing, but also in the summer for hiking or simply relaxing.

The region to which Courmayeur belongs, the Aosta Valley , is noted for its breath-taking scenery, its castles, churches, and rich history dating back to the Roman Empire.


TRANSPORTATION AND HIKING


Courmayeur is well connected to North-Western Italy (220 km from Milan ) . The Mont Blanc Tunnel links the region to France ( Lyon is less than 200 km away and can be reached in a few hours), and Switzerland (180 km from Geneva ).

Dolonne, a sister-town of Courmayeur, holds many residential areas and hotels, as well as a large sporting center. It is connected to Courmayeur by a bridge that stands over a tributary flowing from Mont Blanc.

Another mountain that surrounds Courmayeur is Mont Chétif . It is a hiker-friendly mountain with a statue of the Virgin Mary at the summit which overlooks the town and can be seen from practically anywhere.
