In the United States , college athletics are overseen by the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Association Of Intercollegiate Athletics . College athletics has a high profile in the United States, and to a lesser extent in Canada, where it is known as Interuniversity Sport .

In most of the rest of the world the equivalent level of competition is only followed by competitors and their close friends and families.
