The Chesapeake Tribe of South-Eastern Virginia was believed to be a tribe that would not become part of the Powhatan Empire . The Chesapeake Tribe of South-Eastern Virginia is believed to have been annihilated in the years just prior to the Settlement of Jamestown, Virginia . Jamestown, Virginia is regarded by most historians to be the first permanent English Colony in the "New World". It has been theorized that Powhatan , after consultation with his medicine man, believed that the Chesapeake Indians would be a threat. He ordered the destruction of the tribe in which left no survivors. Some has speculated that the "Lost Colonists" from Roanoke Island may have emigrated and lived among the Chesapeake tribe before being destroyed by Powhatan.
