When he was 17, his father's first cousin, the childless Queen Charlotte Of Cyprus , his uncle's widow, whom her illegitimate half-brother had exiled from her inherited kingdom in the 1460s, surrendered her rights to young Charles, her next legitimate heir in line from King Janus Of Cyprus . The kingdom itself was held by the Republic Of Venice , but the Savoy Dynasty continued to claim it. He married Blanche Of Montferrat (Bianca di Montferrato) ( 1472 – 1519 ) who after Charles's death was the regent of the Duchy of Savoy from 1490 to 1496 .
