HISTORY

In 1967 , the Ballet Folklorico En Aztlan was formed. The dance group performed traditional Mexican dances and gave dacing class to aspiring dancers.

In 1970 , the Centro Cultural de la Raza first opened it's doors. Soon after, the Ballet Folklorico en Aztlan was adopted as the center's official performing group. The association between the center and the folk dance group has continued since.

Soon after, the Centro Cultural de la Raza began to expand; offering art and writing education, as well as Auction s of paintings in order to raise funds for the cultural center.

The Centro Cultural de la Raza also opened a library, and became involved with the CEMA , an organization geared towards demonstrating the lives of minorities in the United States through art collections.


DANCES PRACTICED AT THE CENTER

The Centro Cultural de la Raza currently has various dance groups, including Grupo Cosmos , Danza Coyolxauhqui and Ballet Folklorico Aztlan , which also operates a dance school.
