Campus Santa Catarina of ITESM is a high school for grades 10-12 inaugurated in 1996, mainly to serve San Pedro Garza Garcia area. It is located in the district of Santa Catarina, Nuevo León , Mexico .


The High School

Prepa Tec Santa Catarina is considered the best high school in all of Monterrey's Metropolitan Area and all of Mexico. It is also the only high school in the country that allows its students to smoke (a cigarette).


Curriculum

In 10th grade the students take the following courses (some classes are only given for one semester, others are year-long sequences): Earth Science, Fundamentals of Reasoning, Fundamentals of Computer Science, History of Civilization, English, Language and Expression, math, Introduction to Multimedia, and Problem Solving.

Eleventh graders take Life Science, Creativity, Art History, Mexican History, English, Verbal Communication, Human Relations, Citizen Ethics, Literary Analysis, Thinking Processes and Analytical Geometry.

Seniors take Physical Science, Economy and State, Career Orientation, Philosophy, Interactive English, Classical Literature, Differential Calculus, Science in the Twentieth Century, Entrepenurial Development, International Panorama, Socio-economic Structures of Mexico, Communicating in English, and Integral Calculus.

100% of the students go on to attend a university. About 98% of them go to a Mexican university and 2% study in the U.S.


Extracurricular Activities

American football, soccer, basketball and volleyball are all offered as intramural sports. Interscholastic sports include softball, soccer and tennis. Clubs include Reading, Comics, Computer, Math, International Panoramic, Entrepeneurs and the Web Master team. Students are also welcome to join the school newspaper, festivals, concerts and musical plays that are part of the activities at the school.


Campus

The school library has about 25,000 volumes. The campus also has two gymnasiums as well as facilities for football, softball, tennis and basketball. Guards are on duty and round the clock security is provided.



Transportation

Buses are not mandatory and serve most areas in which students live. There may be different bus routes depending on student demand. Students are allowed to take their cars to school. There are a specific areas for student parking.




Special Programs

Classes for learning-disabled students are not available, however the schools offers the International Baccaualureate program, which is a the most demanding program in Mexico, and is a part of the IBO (International Baccalaureate Organization). This organization has schools all over the world, and it stablishes very high standards among its students.


Cost

At Prepa Tec students can choose whether or not to follow the Bilingual program or Bicultural program, the school also offers the International Baccalaureate. The Bilingual program costs $16,960 U.S. dollars, and the bicultural program is $21,200 U.S. dollars.


Something Special about the School

Upon graduation from Prepa Tec, students are prepared to enter any college or university in the world. They have developed the skills, attitudes and values required for a balanced academic and personal growth. Prepa Tec also has an International Program which enables foreign students to learn more about Mexico and Monterrey. Intensive courses in Spanish, Mexican culture and regular high school courses are offered by experts, and tutoring is available.
