Information About

Brobdingnagian Bards

They derived their name from the kingdom of coarse giants described in Jonathan Swift 's satirical novel '' Gulliver's Travels ''.

The band has two members: Marc Gunn ( Autoharp ), and Andrew McKee ( Recorder , Mandolin ).

Gunn, formerly of Austin alt-rock bands Skander and Breastfed, released a solo album (''Geography'') featuring himself on autoharp and with McKee contributing on recorder in 1998. Inspired by the success of their collaborations on ''Geography'', they formed the Bards in 1999.

Despite performing in a niche genre, they became one of the top 20 bands on the original MP3.com site through prolific recording and the aggressive use of the internet as a marketing platform. Meanwhile, they honed their act into entertainment by adding comedy, with McKee being the straight man to Gunn's antics. As a result, they also became a very popular live act on the renaissance-faire and geek-show circuits.
