Bogense municipality is a municipality ( Danish , '' Kommune '') in Funen County on the north coast of the island of Funen in central Denmark . The municipality includes a number of small islands in the Kattegat (Dræet Ø, Æbelø ) off its northwest coast, and covers an area of 102 Km&2 . It has a total population of 6,448 (2005). Its mayor is Arne Kruse, a member of the Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') Political Party . The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Bogense . Neighboring municipalities are Ejby to the southwest, Søndersø to the south, and Otterup to the east. Part of its eastern border is defined by the waters of Næreå Strand, a cove leading in from the Kattegat, and to the northwest is the Kattegat. By January 1, 2007 Bogense municipality will, as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" Of 2007) , be merged with existing Søndersø and Otterup municipalities to form the new Bogense municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 451 Km&2 and a total population of 28,655 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
