The present diocese covers the County of Somerset and a small area of Dorset . The See is in the City Of Wells in Somerset where the seat is located at the Cathedral Church Of Saint Andrew .

Wells was the seat of a Catholic bishop from 909 although the see has been located at Wells and Bath both individually and jointly (with Bath Abbey serving as co-cathedral). The last Catholic bishop was deprived in 1559 after which a line of Protestant bishops followed. The diocese and the episcopate remain Anglican .

The current bishop is the Right Reverend Peter Bryan '''Price''' , the 77th (33rd Anglican) '''Lord Bishop of Bath and Wells''', who signs ''Peter Bath & Wells''.
