GEOGRAPHY

Batavia is located at 41°50'48" North , 88°18'30" West (41.846562, -88.308441).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 23.8 Km&2 (9.2 Mi&2 ). 23.4 km&2 (9.1 mi&2) of it is land and 0.4 km&2 (0.1 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 1.52% water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 23,866 people, 8,494 households, and 6,268 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 1,018.2/km&2 (2,638.4/mi&2). There were 8,806 housing units at an average density of 375.7/km&2 (973.5/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 93.21% White , 2.42% Black or African American , 0.11% Native American , 1.35% Asian , none Pacific Islander , 1.53% from Other Races , and 1.39% from two or more races. 5.27% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 8,494 households out of which 41.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.0% were Married Couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% were non-families. 22.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.27.

In the city the population was spread out with 31.3% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $68,656, and the median income for a family was $81,689. Males had a median income of $55,913 versus $35,083 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $27,783. 3.6% of the population and 2.5% of families were below the Poverty Line . 4.1% of those under the age of 18 and 5.6% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
