GEOGRAPHY


Aberdeen is located at 38°39'54" North, 83°46'3" West (38.665027, -83.767638).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 4.4 Km&2 (1.7 Mi&2 ). 3.7 km&2 (1.4 mi&2) of it is land and 0.7 km&2 (0.3 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 16.47% water.


HISTORY

Aberdeen was founded in 1816 on the north shore of the Ohio River, at the site where a ferry had sprung up at the terminus of Zane's Trace .


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,603 people, 689 households, and 436 families residing in the village. The Population Density was 439.0/km&2 (1,133.8/mi&2). There were 825 housing units at an average density of 225.9/km&2 (583.5/mi&2). The racial makeup of the village was 96.88% White , 1.37% African American , 0.81% Native American , 0.19% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.37% from Other Races , and 0.37% from two or more races. 1.25% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 689 households out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.4% were Married Couples living together, 15.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.7% were non-families. 31.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.88.

In the village the population was spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 86.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.4 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $30,202, and the median income for a family was $33,906. Males had a median income of $32,500 versus $23,889 for females. The Per Capita Income for the village was $16,287. 21.9% of the population and 18.6% of families were below the Poverty Line . 31.9% of those under the age of 18 and 18.3% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
