The (WFYS) was held in '''1953''', in
Bucharest , the capital of
Romania .
The
World Federation Of Democratic Youth organized this festival against a background of prosecution against communists, especially in
West Germany , where
Philipp Müller , a delegate to the 3rd WFYS had been killed during a demonstration and in
United States , where the
Julius And Ethel Rosenberg were executed, accused of communist espionage. Another important goals of the festival were to protest against the Korean War and to support the nationalist movements in the French colonies of
Algeria and
Vietnam , that were struggling against colonialism. With this background, the festival and its preparation became important anti-war demonstrations.
The 4th WFYS was an important event to promote the then
People's Republic Of Romania among the
Socialist Bloc and on the first days of August of 1953, more than 30,000 young people from 111 countries travelled to Bucharest.
