Vittore Pisano (c. 1380 - 1456 ), commonly called '''Pisanello''', was a painter of the early Italian Rennaissance and Quattrocento . He was a native of San Vigilio sul Lago in the territory of Verona . His drawings are generally prized as jewels of quattrocento, and wonderful pointers of elegant garb of the time, including spectacular hats. His fresco masterpiece is Saint George and the Princess of Trebizond (1436-38) at the Pellegrini Chapel, Sant'Anastasia, Verona. Specimens of his work as a painter are still extant in Rome , Venice , Verona and Pistoia . The National Gallery, London possesses a very fine specimen of Pisanello's work — a panel painted with miniature-like delicacy. He was also adept at designs of medals. During the latter portion of his life he lived in Rome, where he enjoyed great repute. REFERENCE |
