''Vigilante 8'' is a '', released on the PlayStation , Dreamcast , and Nintendo 64 formats.

A third game in the ''Vigilante 8'' series was announced for .

Vigilante 8 is also very similar to the Twisted Metal Series, but lacked the games' speed. Vigilante 8 and Vigilante 8 II were innovative in the degree of level interaction, weapon design and combo systems. Another popular feature was the fact players can load up their own music CDs to be played during gameplay. The V8 II also allowed the players to upgrade their vehicles with some notable physical changes.

Characters:
Vigilantes

Chassey Blue: She drives a blue 1967 Shelby Cobra/1954 Corvette cross ('67 Rattler). Her weapon is the Gridlock.

Slick Clyde: He Drives a 1970 Ford Bronco ('70 Clydesdale). His weapon is white lightning.

Sheila: She Drives a dune buggy ('74 Strider). Her weapon is a Gatling cannon.

John Torque: He Drives a 1971 Lincoln Mk3/1973 Chevy Impala cross ('69 Jefferson). His weapon is a monster sub woofer.

Dave: He drives a 1970 Dodge Van ('70 Van). His weapon is "Invasion".

Convoy (the leader of the Vigilantes): He drives a Semi Truck ('72 Moth Truck). His weapon is "Rolling Thunder."

Coyotes

Loki: He drives a U.S. military Jeep,('73 Glenn 4x4). His weapon is a separating missile system.

Houston 3: She drives a 1969 Camaro ('75 Palomino). Her special weapon is a "death ray."

Boogie: He drives an AMC Gremlin ('76 Leprechaun). His special is a laser shooting disco ball.

Beezwax: He drives a 1970 Dodge Camper ('70 Stag Pickup). His special weapon is a large swarm of mutated bees.

Molo: He drives a school bus ('66 School Bus) which has the most health in the entire game. His special weapon is an oversized exhaust pipe.

Sid Burn (the leader of the Coyotes): He drives a 1968 Corvette Roadster ('69 Manta). His special weapon is a double barreled turret similar to that of the bruiser cannon.

Characters:
Hidden

There is also an unlockable secret player at the end of the game if you
complete every character's quest, "Y" the Alien. He drives a flying saucer ('64 Luxo Saucer). This vehicle is capable of flight and his special is a plasma beam similar(though vastly more powerful)to that of Houston 3's death ray.

"Y" is neither a Vigilante nor a Coyote, and is the first nod towards the "Drifters" that appear in the sequel. His quest is significantly longer than the other character's but those playing on the Nintendo 64 will receive "Super Dreamland 64" as a reward for completion.
