Victoria Park is a Railway Station on the Hurstbridge and Epping lines in Abbotsford , Melbourne , Australia .

Victoria Park was once a busy station as it was the closet station for the Victoria Park football stadium, the Collingwood Football Club 's home ground. Large numbers of people used Victoria Park station to travel to and from matches played at the stadium. In 1998 Collingwood football club decided not to play any more matches at Victoria Park, thus lowering station patronage considerably. The station is elevated, is in Metcard Zone 1 and is unmanned.

A goods yard was once located adjacent to the station.


HISTORY


Victoria Park station opened in 1888 as Collingwood Station (not to be confused with the present Collingwood Station ). Between 1888 and 1901 it was the terminus of the Collingwood to Heidelberg railway line. Until a direct connection with the Melbourne Central Business District was made in 1901 between Princes Bridge and Collingwood, the only connection to the city centre was via the Inner Circle . A former goods yard is adjacent to the station.
