The Veritas Members Association (VMA) was formed on July 11 , 2005 by a group of members of the British political party Veritas who were concerned about the state of the party following its poor results in the UK General Election in 2005 . The four founding members of the VMA were Barrie Haycock , Liz Gilchrist , Ken Wharton and Nick Bugden . On July 12 , 2005 , they issued a press release {Link without Title} , stating that "A wave of resignations and discontent in the 'Party of Truth' has led a group of Veritas Party members to form the Veritas Members’ Association yesterday. Its stated aim is to 'put the truth back into Veritas'". VERITAS PARTY On July 29 , 2005 , the party's founder Robert Kilroy-Silk resigned as leader of Veritas. Also in July 2005, Damian Hockney resigned as Deputy Leader of Veritas. In September 2005, he and Peter Hulme-Cross set up a new party, One London . PATRICK ESTON All four founder members of the VMA were suspended by the party, but later reinstated after an agreement had been reached with the new Acting Party Leader, Patrick Eston . Les Leggett , who stood as the Veritas Party candidate in Cheadle , was also Chairperson of the Veritas Party Standards Committee. He resigned from the party. The Veritas Party forum was used against the VMA and its members. In particular, Liz Gilchrist , founder member of the VMA, was targeted by administrators of the forum. Liz Gilchrist had help fund two Veritas Party candidates, David Henson from Kingston and David Boyle from Reading West . RESIGNATIONS In September 2005, all four founding members of the VMA resigned from the Veritas Party. Harry Cichy , an active supporter of the VMA, resigned as Veritas press officer. Ian Upton , Northern Press Officer, resigned from the Veritas Party. The Veritas Party won the Political 'Turkey' Award for 2005 by a group of political analysts. SEE ALSO
