Vance A. Funk, Iii




After attending private schools in Newark, Funk attended the University Of Delaware , receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1965, as well as a U.S. Army Lt. Commission (he would serve for a year in Vietnam). He then attended the Washington and Lee Law School, where he received his law degree in 1968.

Afterwards, he became a real estate associate for Potter Anderson & Coroon until 1974, entering private practice the following year. Funk then worked as Resident Partner for the Newark office of Bayard Handleman and Murdoch, becoming Managing Partner for that firm in 1990. He returned to private practice in 2000 as a real estate attorney.

He also became Newark city alderman in 1972, holding that post until 1986. He was also the Chief Judge for the Alderman Courts from 1980 until 1986.

He was elected mayor in 2004.


SCANDAL

A minor scandal occurred when it was revealed in the Newark Post that Funk sent a newsletter to his supporters in which he referred to Newark as "Funkytown" in mid-2004.
