GEOGRAPHY Underwood is located at 41°23'13" North, 95°40'43" West (41.386944, -95.678584). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 0.9 Km&2 (0.4 Mi&2 ). 0.9 km&2 (0.4 mi&2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 688 people, 258 households, and 178 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 737.9/km&2 (1,886.8/mi&2). There were 266 housing units at an average density of 285.3/km&2 (729.5/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 99.27% White , 0.00% African American , 0.00% Native American , 0.15% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.58% from Other Races , and 0.00% from two or more races. 1.16% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 258 households out of which 41.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% were Married Couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.27. In the city the population was spread out with 31.4% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
