Twinings is a brand of Tea , primarily operating in the United Kingdom . The Company is based in Andover . The company first made tea in 1706 , and it was taken over in 1964 by Associated British Foods . Twinings mostly provide speciality teas such as Lapsang Souchong , English Breakfast , Lady Grey or Darjeeling . It is generally accepted that the company were the first to blend Earl Grey in Britain during the Premiership of Charles, 2nd Earl Grey , although this is disputed by rival tea merchants Jacksons of Piccadilly. During 2005, Twinings introduced their first generic, non-speciality tea, under the brand 'Everyday Tea'. The company is also known for its ethical and Fair Trade policy.
