Thiruvananthapuram International Airport , formerly known as '''Trivandrum International Airport''', is an international Airport in Kerala , India . It is located 3.7 km from Thiruvananthapuram (formerly known as Trivandrum) and it is the gateway for tourists to Kerala.

The airport was established in 1932. In January 1, 1991 it was upgraded to an international airport, making it the first such airport in India outside the metropolitan cities. Till the inaugration of the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery, the Trivandrum airport carried almost all of the passenger and cargo traffic in Kerala. The volumes have been reduced now. However, the airport remains to be one of India's busiest as it caters to the needs of Kerala and the southern districts of Tamil Nadu state.

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is one of Air India's most profit making route and the 25% of the sales comes from here. There is no direct flight to Europe yet most of the sales comes from flight to the Gulf. The investment from Air India and the owner of the Airport, Airport Authority of India is minimal.

The TIA is soon to get a spanking new third terminal, a fully glass and steel modern terminal which will cater to International flights. Work on the Terminal III is expected to commence by the second half of 2006.
