Information About

Trans-samaria Highway

Highway 5 is commonly used to describe the highway from its eastern end at the Glilot Interchange until where it passes the Green Line near Elkana . From that point, the name Chotze Shomron is used to describe the section continuing east towards the Kfar Tapuach . The highway has also been dedicated as Derech Chaim (Chaim's Road) after the late Chaim Landau , a former Minister of Transportation.

Officially, Highway 5 ends at the Gitai Avisar Junction east of Barkan where it merges into Road 505 which continues east past Ariel until Pezael which is located on Route 90 , the north-south road parallel to the Israeli- Jordan border in the Jordan Valley . Construction is underway to extend Highway 5 from the Gitai Avisar Junction until the Ariel Junction by 2007.
