Tom Chambers




Thomas Doane Chambers (born June 21 , 1959 in Ogden, Utah ) is former star NBA professional Basketball player at the Power Forward position.

The 6'10" Chambers was a key member of the strong Phoenix Suns teams of the late 1980s and early 90s. 'Tommy Gun' would combine with all-star point guard Kevin Johnson to run a Pick-and-roll play that would often account for a good third of the teams points. Chambers played for the Suns for five seasons, having his best point production in 1989-90 (27.2 a contest).

Chambers played 14 full seasons in the league, starting in 1981-82 with the San Diego Clippers . He played five seasons for the Seattle SuperSonics from 1983-84 to 1988-89 and was named MVP of the 1987 NBA All-Star Game played at the Kingdome . After five seasons with the Suns, he spent two in the twilight of his career with his home state Utah Jazz . Chambers also played limited minutes in 12 games with the Charlotte Hornets in 1996-97 and ten minutes in a game for the Philadelphia 76ers in 1997-98, scoring six points.

Chambers ranks #29 all-time in total (regular season) points scored in the NBA with 20,049 in 1,107 games, for 18.1 points per game average. He also averaged 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in the regular season over his career.

As of the early 2000s, Chambers worked for the Suns on its community relations staff.
