It is the County Seat of Brevard County . GEOGRAPHY Titusville is located at 28°35'28" North, 80°49'12" West (28.591210, -80.819911). Titusville sits on the Indian River in the Northern half of Brevard County, Florida. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 67.1 Km&2 (25.9 Mi&2 ). 55.1 km&2 (21.3 mi&2) of it is land and 12.0 km&2 (4.7 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 17.95% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 40,670 people, 17,200 households, and 11,094 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 738.6/km&2 (1,913.4/mi&2). There were 19,178 housing units at an average density of 348.3/km&2 (902.3/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 83.80% White , 12.64% African American , 0.39% Native American , 0.94% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 0.73% from Other Races , and 1.46% from two or more races. 3.52% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 17,200 households out of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% were Married Couples living together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.5% were non-families. 29.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.86. In the city the population was spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 20.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 90.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.1 males. The median income for a household in the city was $35,607, and the median income for a family was $42,453. Males had a median income of $36,076 versus $23,998 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $18,901. 12.4% of the population and 9.3% of families were below the Poverty Line . 17.6% of those under the age of 18 and 6.8% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
