Timo Maas

Timo Maas (born in Hanover , Germany ) is an Electronic Music DJ / Producer and Remix er.

HISTORY

Maas' first fascination to music was when he was young listening to the radio. At 9 he bought his first record and went on to buy his first set of turntables at 17. His first gigs were mostly playing Top 40 records around Germany, but occasionally sneaking in a Techno record. His first set was in 1982, where he played at a friend's house party. It was to be another 6 years before he performed his first official all-techno mix. In 1992 he was introduced to the early German rave scene through a booking at an Easter Rave . He then began playing locally and at major rave events, which lead him to become increasingly popular in the underground scene.

Maas began producing records in the '80s. His first record ''The final XS'' was not released until 1995, did not sell well and Maas himself called it ''Cheesy''. His second release was with another producer, Gary D, on ''Die Herdplatte'', which became more successful than his first release. Gary D also gained Maas a residency at Hamburg's famous club, The Tunnel, between 1994 and 1996.

Through connections in England Maas played at the Bristol -based Progressive House club Lakota. He also began to release records through Hope Recordings and others, under his own name and also under his alias Orinoko. He has recorded under many alias' including ''Mad Dogs'' with his manager and friend Leon Alexander. In 2000 Timo Maas began a residency alongside Deep Dish at New York club Twilo .

Timo first became popular in mainstream dance music through his remix of Azzido Da Bass ' "Doom's Night." Following this success he released ''Music For the Maases Volume 1'', a mix album consisting of many of his previous tracks and remixes. After another mix album ''Connected'' on Paul Oakenfold s imprint Perfecto Timo released his debut album ''Loud'' in 2002. This album featured guest appearances from Kelis and Finley Quaye . A second ''Music for the Maases'' was released, again consisting of remixes and new tracks. Timo's second artist album ''Pictures'', featuring guests Kelis , Neneh Cherry and Placebo ’s Brian Molko was released in 2005.
