Tim Carpenter is a Democratic member of the Wisconsin Senate from Milwaukee, Wisconsin . He was born in Milwaukee and graduated from University Of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (B.A.) and from University Of Wisconsin-Madison (M.A.) from the La Follette Institute. He is a member of the Sierra Club and has been named Legislator of the Year by both Shepherd Express (2003) and the Wisconsin Professional Fire Fighters (2002). He was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1984 and reelected until 2000, during which time he was Speaker Pro Tempore in 1993. He was elected to the Wisconsin Senate in 2002. He currently sits on the Committee on Health, Children, Families, Aging and Long-Term Care, the Committee on Labor and Election Process Reform, and Committee on State and Federal Relations. He is up for reelection in 2006. Senator Tim Carpenter is a long-time supporter and champion of LGBT issues and is one of only two out gay elected officials in the Wisconsin legislature.
