''The Squid and the Whale'' is a Panoramic at the American Museum Of Natural History ), directed by Noah Baumbach . The story revolves around two young boys in New York dealing with their parents' divorce in the 1980s. The story is based on the childhood of Baumbach.

''The Squid and the Whale'' was a huge success with critics. At the 2005 Sundance Film Festival , the film won the awards for best dramatic direction and a screenwriting award. It was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. Baumbach was later rewarded with an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay . Furthermore, the film received six Independent Spirit Award nominations, three Golden Globe nominations, while the New York Film Critics Circle , Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the National Board Of Review all voted it the year’s best screenplay.
