Information About

The Code Of The Woosters

PLOT

The Code of the Woosters is the first installment in the Totleigh Towers saga.
It introduces the characters of Sir Watkyn Bassett , the owner of Totleigh Towers and Roderick Spode , later known as ''Lord Sidcup'' after his ascension to Earldom.

The story opens with Bertie's encounter with Sir Watkyn in an antique store, where they both aim to buy the ''cow creamer'', an antique piece of silver. Sir Watkyn is an avid collector of silverware, as is Tom Travers , Bertie's uncle and husband of Aunt Dahlia , for whom Bertie is there to get the cow creamer, at Aunt Dahlia's behest, or else, to Aunt Dahlia and Bertie's considerable horror, Sir Watkyn will trade it to Tom in exchange for Anatole . However, Spode, who is a close friend of Sir Watkyn's, is very protective of the cow creamer and announces to Bertie that if he pinches it, Spode will beat him to a jelly. From here starts a series of mishaps that only get worse after Bertie invites himself to Totleigh Towers, where he is to pinch the cow creamer on the orders of Aunt Dahlia. Bertie has to handle the affairs of Madeline Bassett , Sir Watkyn's daughter, who believes Bertie is hopelessly in love with her, and Gussie Fink-Nottle , Bertie's fish-faced Newt -fancying friend and fiance of Madeline Bassett, as well as helping Stiffy Byng in her quest to marry Bertie's old pal "Stinker" Pinker .

He only barely manages to escape, thanks in no small measure to the inimitable Jeeves .

ADAPTATIONS

Much of the plot was adapted to form the first two episodes of the second season of the ITV series '' Jeeves And Wooster ''. On 9 April 2006 , BBC Radio 4 broadcast ''The Code of the Woosters'' as its Classic Serial. Andrew Sachs appeared as Jeeves and Marcus Brigstocke as Bertie Wooster .
