Drosnin describes a " Bible Code ", in this case messages that allegedly are encoded in the Torah . The purported messages are supposed to be hidden in the Torah by placing their letters at equal intervals in the text. Drosnin's book is based on the technique described in the paper "Equidistant Letter Sequences in the Book of Genesis" by Eliyahu Rips of the Hebrew University in Israel together with Doron Witztum and Yoav Rosenberg . A sequel, ''The Bible Code II'', was published in 2002 and also reached best-seller status. ''The Bible Code'' makes such 'predictions' such as the apocalypse to take place in 2006. For a discussion of bible codes and debates about their validity, see Bible Code . EXTERNAL LINKS
