The Believers, a horror movie directed by John Schlesinger was released in 1987. Martin Sheen , Robert Loggia , Helen Shaver are among the actors of the movie. THE SYNOPSIS After the unfortunate death of his wife by electrocution, Cal Jamison ( Martin Sheen )comes to ethnically diverse New York City with his son where they encounter all manner of spooky, threatening behaviour from anyone of colour. Brutal, ritualistic child murders, supposedly committed by members of an Hispanic cult practicing Brujeria (a version of the magic-heavy religion Santeria ) have been confounding drunken Irish police Lieutenant Sean McTaggert ( Robert Loggia ) and his superstitious Spanish detective Lopez ( Jimmy Smits ). When a scary-looking Haitian guy starts sneaking around, and Cal’s superstitious Hispanic nanny begins casting spells around the house, Cal realizes he must solve the mystery in order to dispel all the ignorant talk of magic. Lopeza and McTaggert commit suicide and Cal's finacee suffers a terrible skin disease. Cal himself performs the Santeria to ward off the evil that might endanger his son. During the course, the mystery is unfolded and the man behind the monsterous child murders is nabbed. |
