Tate is a native of Rankin County and is a graduate of Florence High School. He is an honors graduate of Millsaps College , with a degree in Economics . While at Millsaps, he played point guard for the Millsaps Majors Basketball Team. Tate entered the 2003 GOP Primary a virtual unknown, and was a longshot to beat Wayne Burkes and state representative Andrew Ketchings of Natchez. However, Reeves proved an excellent fundraiser and gained strength in counties that were GOP strongholds, such as Lamar, Desoto, and Rankin. Reeves led the GOP primary, and routed Burkes in the primary run-off. In the general election, Reeves squeaked past Gary Anderson , the state's director of finance & administration, to become the GOP's first state treasurer. During his first year in office, he was elected Vice President of the National Association of State Treasurers. As State Treasurer, he maintains the various financial records, including receipts, deposits, and disbursementss of the funds that accumulate in the state Treasury. Tate and his wife Elee are parents of one child, Sarah Tyler. Reeves, Tate |
