Lieutenant Natasha Yar is a fictional character on ''''. She was portrayed by actress Denise Crosby . She was the original security officer of the ''Enterprise''-D . Born on Turkana IV , a Colony world which fell into Anarchy after it was abandoned by the Federation , she learned to defend herself on the streets and avoid the rape Gangs . While the crew of the ''Enterprise'' was under the influence of a virus which caused people to lose control of their actions, she and Data were sexually intimate (episode " The Naked Now "). She was Killed by an Evil force known as Armus on Vagra II less than a year after the ''Enterprise''-D began its Mission (episode " Skin Of Evil "). After her Death , Lieutenant Worf replaced her as security chief aboard the ''Enterprise''. Many fans believe her death was sudden and rather pointless. The character was killed off when Crosby wanted to leave the show to pursue other roles. Crosby's most notable returns to the series were during the series finale, " All Good Things... " (which involved time travel), and in the third season episode " Yesterday's ''Enterprise'' ", showing an Alternate Universe ''and'' time-traveling. The Yar from the alternate universe returned to the 'normal' time stream and eventually bore a half- Romulan daughter named Sela . Sela herself appeared in the fourth and fifth seasons, played, unusually, by Crosby. Between these roles and a second-season archival-footage appearance, Crosby appeared in every season of ''Star Trek: The Next Generation'' except the sixth. Natasha had a younger sister, Ishara (episode " Legacy ") Originally, the character was to be called Macha Hernandez, an homage to the character of Private Vasquez from the film '' Aliens ''. Jenette Goldstein , who played Vasquez, was set to play Hernandez; she was replaced in that role by Marina Sirtis . At that time, Denise Crosby was set to play Deanna Troi , but she and Sirtis switched roles before production on the series commenced. EXTERNAL LINKS |
