Taperoo is essentially a residential suburb, with a minor harbourside presence on the eastern shore of the suburb.''Taperoo'' is an Aboriginal word which means ''calm''. The area was previously a portion of an area named ''Silicate''. FACILITIES The suburb is served by a primary school, Ocean View College Dimboola Campus, and the local high school is Ocean View College Gedville Campus. The Catholic Our Lady of the Visitation Convent provides a religious alternative. The western coastal side of the suburb is also graced by a sandy beach. The suburb is the seat of Fort Largs Police Academy, the training facility for South Australian police, and this borderd Roy Marten Park, the primary recreational reserve in the suburb. TRANSPORT The 333 and 334 services travel along Strathfield Terrace, while the 336 travels along Victoria Road. The Outer Harbor Railway Line serves the suburb through the Taperoo Railway Station .
