GEOGRAPHY Tanana is located at 65°10'14" North, 152°4'33" West (65.170544, -152.075883). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 40.4 Km&2 (15.6 Mi&2 ). 29.9 km&2 (11.6 mi&2) of it is land and 10.4 km&2 (4.0 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 25.80% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 308 people, 121 households, and 68 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 10.3/km&2 (26.6/mi&2). There were 166 housing units at an average density of 5.5/km&2 (14.4/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 17.86% White , 79.87% Native American , and 2.27% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 121 households out of which 41.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 26.4% were Married Couples living together, 20.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.0% were non-families. 37.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.43. In the city the population was spread out with 34.7% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 131.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 128.4 males. The median income for a household in the city was $29,750, and the median income for a family was $34,028. Males had a median income of $30,781 versus $23,500 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $12,077. 23.0% of the population and 16.4% of families were below the Poverty Line . 15.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
