She was a regular cast member on the television show '' Popular '' on the Warner Brothers Network and guest-starred on the Showtime drama, '' The L Word ''. Tammy developed a passion for acting in high school, and after graduating, she moved to New York to pursue it. While working at a restaurant, a talent scout spotted her. After moving to Los Angeles , Michaels landed the role on '' Popular '' within a week. In 2005 , she played the character Tess on the NBC series '' Committed ''. Michaels is a well-known lesbian figure, having Married popular singer Melissa Etheridge on September 22 , 2003 .
