Information AboutTaiidan Interceptor |
|
In the universe of the best-selling Game '' Homeworld '' the ''' Taiidan Empire ''', much in the style of the Galactic Empire in Star Wars (although probably closer to the Foundation Equivalent actually), rules over the galaxy by military prowess and cultural domination. Their fleet, one of the strongest in the galaxy, composes of a wide variety of ships from ''' Starfighter s''' to Capital Ship s. The Triikor-class Interceptor is the vanguard of the fleet and their patrols are the first line of defense and the first ones in on an assault. Triikors wings are deadly arsenals of speed and firepower that nearly match the Fiirkan 's speed but best the firepower of the faster fighter. Commonly known as interceptors the Triikors were often used by the time of the ''' Homeworld War ''' much like Turanic fighters, nimble strikecraft used in attacks of their own right and not in conjunction necessarily with capital ships. This, along with the Kadeshi use of strikecraft eventually convinced the Kushan of the potential use of strikecraft wings as one would normally use an Assault Frigate . The Triikor, unlike traditional fighters, does not have a centered weight of gravity. The Triikor uses two small mass drivers, which concentrate the mass of the fighter to one side. Ironically, this is quite similar to the style of design used in Kushan fighters of the Homeworld War, who often used an off-set cockpit (instead of an off-set center of gravity). Though there are advantages in such a cockpit (the said added amount of firepower and the ability to change directions with less exchange of brutal Centrifugal Force ) the difficulty in flying such a vehicle means that Taiidan pilots as well as Kushan pilots need special training to adapt to the odd design (or in the case of the Kushan) rarely use any other design. Many of the flying aces in the Taiidan Empire belong to Triikor wings and perform amazing manueverability and acrobatics to outmanuever their targets. One such move, known well throughout the galaxy for its common use, is "rolling the barrel" in which a Taiidan pilot will spin a fighter as he dives towards his target, shooting all the way. The move makes hitting the fighter harder while also spreading the fighter's firepower out across the entire ship. Sometimes this is the last thing an enemy of the Empire will see before he is torn to bits by an angry wing of Triikors. SEE ALSO EXTERNAL LINKS |
