Information About

Taal Lake

Taal Lake is a freshwater lake on the island of Luzon in the Philippines , situated within a Caldera formed by very large Eruptions between 500,000 and 100,000 years ago. It is the country's third largest lake. The active Taal Volcano , which is the one responsible for the lake's sulfuric content, lies in the center of the lake.

The lake is freshwater in composition. It was once extensively connected with Batangas Bay . However, after a series of eruptions in the 16th century, its connection with the latter narrowed to form the Pansipit River . Also, succeeding eruptions buried lakeside towns. There are presently no towns on the lakeside, save for three. Old lakeside towns with buildings and walls are reported to be seen under the lake's waters.
