Sverdlovsk (, ) is a city in Luhansk Oblast of Ukraine , the center of Sverdlovsk Raion . It is located in the south-east part of the oblast, about 80km from the Luhansk Oblast capital, Luhansk . As of 2001 , it's population is 72,531.


HISTORY

In the end of the 18th Century Catherine II Of Russia gave to Ataman Vasyl Orlov for his excellent military service, a small farmland in the headstream of Dolzhyk River . The farmland started to be called Dolzhykovo-Orlovske. The development of the village speed up at the end of 19th Century , after the discovery of Coal in the Donetsk Region . In 1938 the city received City Status and it's current name in the memory of Bolshevik leader Yakov Sverdlov .

Most of the city residents are working in the Mine Industry .
