GEOGRAPHY Sussex is located at 41°12'34" North, 74°36'25" West (41.209485, -74.606878). According to the United States Census Bureau , the borough has a total area of 1.6 Km&2 (0.6 Mi&2 ). 1.6 km&2 (0.6 mi&2) of it is land and 0.1 km&2 (0.04 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 3.23% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 2,145 people, 903 households, and 512 families residing in the borough. The Population Density was 1,380.3/km&2 (3,597.9/mi&2). There were 961 housing units at an average density of 618.4/km&2 (1,611.9/mi&2). The racial makeup of the borough was 96.32% White , 1.12% African American , 0.09% Native American , 1.21% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.37% from Other Races , and 0.89% from two or more races. 2.56% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 903 households out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.9% were Married Couples living together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.2% were non-families. 35.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 3.12. In the borough the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 91.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.8 males. The median income for a household in the borough was $36,172, and the median income for a family was $45,250. Males had a median income of $37,009 versus $22,475 for females. The Per Capita Income for the borough was $18,866. 11.0% of the population and 6.9% of families were below the Poverty Line . 15.6% of those under the age of 18 and 8.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line. GOVERNMENT Local government The Mayor of Sussex Borough is Katherine Little (term ends December 2007). Members of the Sussex Borough Council are Theresa Coursen (2005), Frank Dykstra (2006), James Ezzo (2006), Charles Fronheiser, Jr. (2007), John Pierce (2007) and John Stendor (2007). Federal, state and county representation Sussex Borough is in the Fifth Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 24th Legislative District. EDUCATION Students in Kindergarten through eighth grade attend the school of the Sussex-Wantage Regional School District , together with children from Wantage Township . The three schools in the district are the Clifton E. Lawrence School in Wantage (527 students in grades Kingergarten to 2), Wantage Elementary School in Sussex (553 students in grades 3 - 5) and Sussex Middle School in Sussex (638 students in grades 6-8). For grades 9 - 12, students attend High Point Regional High School , located in Sussex and part of the High Point Regional School District . Attending ths school are students from Branchville , Frankford Township , Lafayette Township , Sussex Borough and from Wantage Township . EXTERNAL LINKS
