Vincent first went to Iraq in the fall of 2003 . An art critic, he had changed professions after watching United Flight 175 crash into the World Trade Center on September 11 , 2001 , and the subsequent collapse of the towers. After his first two trips he wrote ''In the Red Zone: A Journey Into the Soul of Iraq'' and maintained a blog, '' In the Red Zone '', about his experiences in southern Iraq. REFERENCES
