Steve Bauer




Steve Bauer (born June 12 , 1959 in St. Catharines , Ontario ) is a former professional Road Bicycle Racer from Canada .

Steve Bauer won the Silver Medal in the Men's cyclying road race at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles . He turned professional following the Olympic Games , and later that year won the Bronze Medal at the World Cycling Championship road race in Barcelona .

Bauer was very successful in the Tour De France including a fourth place finish in the 1988 Tour De France . Bauer was a La Vie Claire cycling team member in the 1985 Tour De France when Bernard Hinault and Greg LeMond finished first and second. He was a La Vie Claire-Wonder-Radar cycling team member in the 1986 Tour De France when LeMond and Hinault, repeated the first-second. As of 2005, Bauer is one of two Canadians to ever wear The Yellow Jersey in the Tour de France. The other is Alex Stieda , who won a stage in 1986. Bauer was also a member of the 7-Eleven Cycling Team .

In 1989 Bauer won the Championship Of Zurich .

In 1994, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (civil division) for having "paved the way for Canada's coming generations of cycling enthusiasts". {Link without Title}
