The State Transit Authority carries more than 200 million passengers every year. With a fleet of 1,900 buses, the Authority has the largest bus fleet in Australia, and is a major provider of Public Transport services in Sydney and Newcastle. Sydney Buses operates more than 300 routes and Newcastle Buses & Ferries operates 29 bus routes plus a ferry service between Newcastle and Stockton. These routes mirror many of the old Tram routes that they replaced in the 1950s and early 1960s. Sydney's first bus-based rapid transit system - the ( Liverpool To Parramatta T-way ) - is operated by Western Sydney Buses, a subsidiary of the State Transit Authority. T-way buses run on both purpose-built exclusive corridors and on bus lanes on existing roads. The State Transit Authority also previously operated Sydney Ferries until July 2004 when it became a separate corporation. Sydney Ferries is the main provider of ferry services in the Sydney public transport network. The State Transit Authority also works closely with CityRail , the manager of greater Sydney's commuter railway service. EXTERNAL LINKS
