St George's Circus




St George's Circus is in Southwark , London SE1 . At its centre is a historic Obelisk , built in 1771 to honour Brass Crosby , Lord Mayor Of London . In 1905 this was relocated to Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park , in front of the Imperial War Museum close by, but it was returned back to its original location in the late 1990s . At the base of the obelisk is the inscription ''Erected in XI year of the reign of King George MDCCLXXI .

The St George's Circus area is a Conservation Area , including a number of Georgian buildings, although many are in a poor state of repair.

On the north end of St George's Circus is McLaren House halls of residents for student of London South Bank University . The building was opended in 1992 and holds around 400–500 students.

From the north and clockwise, the following roads converge here:


St George's Circus forms a hub in south-east central London, connecting roads leading to several bridges around a bend in the River Thames . McLaren House , a residence for students from London South Bank University is located on the circus.
