HISTORY It was founded on April 1 , 1954 by Satikanta Guha and Pritilata Guha. South Point is affiliated with the West Bengal Board Of Secondary Education (WBBSE); the school was upgraded to the Higher Secondary level on April 1 , 1960 . The present high school building was constructed in the 1960s and has been in use since April 8 , 1970 . CAMPUS The school is located at 16 Mandeville Gardens, Kolkata-19. Having started with only 20 children, it now has about 13,000 students, 325 teachers, and 225 members of non-teaching staff. Indeed, South Point held the record for being the world’s largest school from 1984 to 1992 according to the Guinness Book Of World Records .Actor Utpal Dutta, writer, painter , intellectual Kamal Kumar Majumdar taught in South Point. South Point produced students who excelled in varied fields . Reknowned filmmakers like Rituporno Ghosh, danseuse Tanusree Shankar are students of this school .
