Her Media career began embryonically even before she had left school when at the age of 14 she presented a one off programme for Comic Relief on BBC WM . UNIVERSITY AND EARLY CAREER IN COMMERCIAL RADIO She graduated from University (in Hertfordshire) with a Humanities Degree in 1994 and went to work in Commercial Radio for Sunrise Radio and then on to Radio XL (Radio XL website) to present their Mid Morning Show, the first ever phone in show dedicated to the BBC Asian Community in the Midlands. SONIA DEOL ON THE BBC In 1996 she went to work for the BBC Asian Network and from 1997-2000 presented . From 24 April 2006 she has been presenter of the new Sonia Deol Show moved back to 06:00 replacing the Breakfast Show with Anita Rani taking over her old show, the new show focuses on news, music and entertainment but does not have a regular phone in. The new show being Birmingham based has given her the opportunity to move back in with her parents making it easier to look after her mother who has been ill with cancer and also allowing her to check out the Birmingham Scene more which she prefers to that of London, as she says "I'm a Brummie Lass!" On the BBC Asian Network her mission has been to broaden the appeal of the Network and encourage listeners from backgrounds other than South Asian while maintaining a service to the core audience and on her programme she has talked to all the main National UK Political Party leaders and many other leading figures from politics, media, movies, music and many other areas from around the world. She has also recently been a roving reporter for The Heaven and Earth Show on BBC1. EXTERNAL LINKS
