Snowboard Cross is a new event at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Competitors race in groups of four with the top two going onto the next round. The course consists of a combination of jumps, turns and moguls.

The event took place in Bardonecchia on February 17. The final race will be remembered for the fall of Lindsey Jacobellis on the Penultimate jump due to Showboating (attempting a Backside method grab) which left Tanja Frieden to win.

She had a commanding lead in the Snowboard Cross final but for some reason attempted a show-boating trick on the penultimate jump, lost her balance and went crashing to the ground only to see Switzerland's Tanja Frieden sneak past her and take the Gold .
