SkyEurope (officially SkyEurope Airlines) is a Low-cost Airline with its main base at M. R. Stefanik Airport (BTS) in Bratislava , Slovakia , and other bases in Krakow , Prague , Budapest and Warsaw . The airline has recently substantially reduced its services from Warsaw following a dispute with the airport operator, and it is arguable as to whether or not Warsaw can still be called a "base". It was the first such airline in Central Europe . It operates scheduled and charter passenger and cargo services. CODE DATA HISTORY The airline was established in November 2001 and started operations in February 2002 . It was founded by Alain Skowronek (Chairman) and Christian Mandl (Chief Executive) financed by EBRD , ABN-Amro and EU funds. The airline employs around 700 people. It owns the subsidiary airline SkyEurope Airlines Hungary . In September 2005, the airline went public on the Vienna and Warsaw stock exchanges. The Initial Public Offering price was 6 EUR , valuating the company at 120 Million Euro . With bases in Hungary, Poland and Slovakia it was also the first multi-based airline in the Central Europe. SkyEurope operates from its bases in Budapest, Krakow, Warsaw and Vienna Bratislava. SERVICES SkyEurope currently operates a total of 64 routes to 38 destinations in 19 countries, making it Central Europe's largest low-cost airline. Bratislava Airport is located within a one-hour drive of Vienna , Brno and Győr , covering a Catchment Area of four countries ( Austria , Hungary , Czech Republic and Slovakia ). SkyEurope operates a bus shuttle from Bratislava Airport to Vienna , 50 km away. FLEET The SkyEurope fleet consists of the following aircraft (at March 2006 ):
SkyEurope placed an order in 2005 for up to 32 new Boeing 737-700 aircraft (of which 16 are subject to purchase rights) to be delivered between 2006 and 2009, currently the largest order in Central Europe valued at US$1.76 million at list prices. The 12 first aircraft will be financed and leased to SkyEurope by GECAS. This aircraft order will reinforce and enlarge the Company’s aircraft fleet during the period 2006 - 2009. EXTERNAL LINKS |
