In addition to its core business as a newspaper and magazine publisher, SPH provides Internet portal services with online news and e-commerce facilities through its Internet arm, the SPH Internet Business Unit.

It operates two radio stations, UFM 100.3 FM in Chinese and WKRZ 91.3 FM in English, under a 70 per cent-owned joint venture company, UnionWorks, with NTUC Media. SPH also maintains a presence in the free-to-air television business through a 20 per cent share in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd, which operates channels 5, 8, U and TV Mobile.

Expanding into property investment, SPH acquired Paragon and Promenade and amalgamated them into a single development, the Paragon – a prime shopping complex and commercial building in the heart of Orchard Road.

SPH has also ventured into out-of-home advertising. It owns an 80% stake in SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore's largest LED network media company with four large LED displays and 400 LCD and plasma displays across the island.

Moreover, circulation of SPH newspapers continues to show growth despite the increasing popularity of the Internet.

The success of SPH is built on the strong history of its two flagship newspapers: The Straits Times, the English daily which has been in publication for 160 years, and Lianhe Zaobao, the Chinese daily started in 1983 from the merger of Nanyang Siang Pau and Sin Chew Jit Poh, which dates back to 1923. Lianhe Zaobao is the trusted information provider for the Chinese-speaking community.

The other two dailies, Berita Harian and Tamil Murasu, remain the staple for Malay and Indian readers respectively. And in keeping with the times, these newspapers are now available on the Internet. Its online versions are known as The Straits Times Interactive, zaobao.com, cyBerita and Tamil Murasu Online. Other Internet editions of SPH newspapers are: The Electric New Paper and The Business Times Online.

Over the years, SPH editors and journalists have continued to upgrade and re-design the newspapers to meet the dynamic lifestyle changes of readers.

A new chapter in SPH journalism began in 2002 when for the first time, the English and Chinese newsrooms moved in together to operate under one roof at SPH's new headquarters, News Centre at Toa Payoh North. This unprecedented move drives the integration of content creation and delivery for multiple media platforms and promises round-the-clock continuous news delivery across these platforms.

With more than S$500 million in printing assets, SPH prints all its newspapers. Its state-of-the-art printing facilities are capable of providing up to 100 per cent colour pages for any newspaper edition. SPH also prints regional editions of international newspapers, namely Asahi Shimbun, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the Asian Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times and the International Herald Tribune.
