"Simple And Clean" can be found on her single " COLORS " and also on the First Kingdom Hearts Soundtrack . Although it has been remixed many times, the most common is the PLANITb remix, which is the opening theme of the Western version of Kingdom Hearts. The song is not a literal English version of her song "Hikari" (光, ''light'') with English lyrics. The lyrics of "Simple And Clean" are not a direct translation of "Hikari," and the song itself is not the same song as "Hikari." While composing "Hikari," Utada Hikaru abandoned a Hook that would later be used in a song featured on her '' Deep River '' album, "uso mitaina I LOVE YOU" (嘘みたいなI Love You, ''A lie like 'I love you'''). When she recorded "Simple And Clean," she used the hook for the verses. ''Hikari'' was written such that it fit with the theme of the game's storyline, while "Simple And Clean" was only loosely tied with the original ''Kingdom Hearts''. The song is used as the theme song in Western versions and Final Mix version of the video game '''', which features the original version of the song. Also, a section of the chorus can be heard in the score of Kingdom Hearts 2. The lyrics are the singer telling her boyfriend about her feelings and exploring her insecurities. |
