Shibata (新発田市; -shi) is a City located in Niigata , Japan . As of 2005 , the city has an estimated Population of 104,633 and the Density of 196.37 persons per Km² . The total area is 532.82 km². The city was founded on January 1 , 1947 . The ruins of Shibata castle are the main visitor attraction and provide the backdrop to the spring cherry blossom viewing parties.
