Sheung Wan (上環, of the Hong Kong MTR ''' Island Line '''. It was originally built in 1970 as Western Market but its construction was discontinued after further planning for the new lines. Upon the construction of the Island Line , the station was finally constructed and opened in May 1986. The livery colour of this station is khaki. ISLAND LINE PLATFORMS These are side platforms built along Des Voeux Road from Cleverly Street to Rumsey Street . Platform 1: serves Chai Wan -bound trainsPlatform 2: is an exit-only platform at the end of the Island Line. Both platforms are slightly longer than usual. It has been suggested that this was the result of problems in calculations during the station's construction. RUMSEY STREET PLATFORMS The platforms of the original Rumsey station, originally planned as the southern terminus of East Kowloon Line , still remain in Sheung Wan station. They are located near Exit E, and they are perpendicular to the Island Line platforms below. At present time, the Rumsey Station platforms are incomplete platforms. They have a length of about three MTR EMU s (while normal trains have eight each), do not have tracks and overhead power lines, and with all the tunnel entrances sealed with bricks. It is widely believed that these are the most mysterious platforms in Hong Kong , with many people wondering what the Rumsey Street platforms are doing in Sheung Wan station. The abandoned platforms give people a haunted feeling, somewhat augmented by the constant "dong" noise emitted from the escalators, a guidance signal for the blind people. EXITS Exits are provided at Rumsey Street, Des Voeux Road Central, Connaught Road Central and Shun Tak Center. EXTERNAL LINKS
